Joel Claveus came to the U.S. from Haiti in 2002, shortly after an earthquake hit his home country. Growing up as an orphan, he knew he couldn’t provide for himself and decided to move to the U.S.

Joel joined our Souderton beef facility soon after arriving and has stayed with the company ever since. As soon as he started at JBS, Joel decided he wanted to achieve great things working at the facility.

Joel started as an hourly production team member and was encouraged by his supervisor to pursue a higher position. “He wanted me to be his lead person,” Joel said. Shortly after joining the company, Joel became a supervisor, a position he held for three years.

Later, he joined the company’s People First Program. Soon after completing the training, Joel applied to be a superintendent and has been a production superintendent for five years now. “I knew I wanted to be somebody,” he said.

In addition to being dedicated team member, Joel is also a DJ and plays at company’s annual summer picnic event.

Joel says that JBS has done a lot for him and his family. He learned English because of his coworkers, and he purchased a car and a house because of this job. Working for JBS also provides for him, his wife and their seven kids.

“Thanks to JBS, we’re here,” Joel said.
